301st BG, 32nd BS

Ebey Leroy Clark was born on August 22, 1923, on a ranch east of Groom, Texas, and was the youngest of four siblings. He attended elementary school in Grandview, Texas, and high school in Groom. On February 16, 1943, not yet twenty, he enlisted in the Air Force despite his mother having tried to the last to make him give up. After training he was sent overseas and joined the 15th Air Force as a tail gunner in force at the 301st Bomber Group.
On February 14, 1944, he participated in a bombing mission on Verona (Italy), his thirteenth of him. Unfortunately, he died, not from enemy bullets but from anoxia, his oxygen regulation system faulty, broken or in any case not working properly; he had not yet passed a year since his enlistment.
