Il 2° tenente George C. Kulick era il bombardiere del B-17 A/C #42-31893 “Busy Bee” che si schiantò il 14 febbraio 1944 vicino a Mantova; si salvò lanciandosi con il paracadute.
Nacque il 30 luglio 1920 a Chicago ed era un veterano dell’aviazione americana della seconda guerra mondiale e membro a vita degli ex prigionieri di guerra americani. Dopo la liberazione dalla prigionia (avvenuta nel mese di maggio del 1945), tra i pochi ricordi che trasmise alla figlia, raccontò che arrivato terra, quel 14 febbraio 1944, fu trovato da un contadino italiano che lo consegnò ai tedeschi. Disse che durante l’interrogatorio, i tedeschi, con sua meraviglia, dimostravano di essere in possesso di molte informazioni sul suo conto (istruzione, luogo di nascita, membri della famiglia, ecc.). Kulick era uno dei quattro ufficiali membri originari dell’equipaggio del tenente Harold A. Bond e con i due sopravvissuti si ritrovò nel novembre del 1986 per un riunione tra ex-commilitoni. Soffrirà per tutta la vita di disordine post-traumatico (PTSD), probabile concausa dell’ictus che ne provocò la morte il 6 maggio 2005 a Sarasota, all’età di 84 anni.

2nd Lt. George C. Kulick was the bombardier of B-17 A/C #42-31893 “Busy Bee” that crashed February 14, 1944 near Mantua; he saved himself by jumping with a parachute.
He was born July 30, 1920, in Chicago and was a World War II U.S. Army Air Force veteran and a lifetime member of the American Ex-POWs. After his liberation from prison (which took place in May 1945), among the few memories that he passed on to his daughter, he said that when he arrived on land on February 14, 1944, he was found by an Italian farmer who handed him over to the Germans. He said that during the interrogation, the Germans, to his amazement, demonstrated that they had a lot of information about him (education, place of birth, family members, etc.). Kulick was one of the four original officers of Lt. Harold A. Bond’s crew and reunited with the two survivors in November 1986 for a reunion of former comrades. He will suffer from post-traumatic disorder (PTSD) throughout his life, a probable cause of the stroke that caused his death on May 6, 2005 in Sarasota, at the age of 84.
