Morì il 21 aprile 2010 a Webster City, Hamilton, Iowa, Stati Uniti, all’età di 87 anni; riposa presso il Calvary Cemetery di Webster City, Hamilton County, Iowa, USA.
Virgil Wayne Scott was born on 25 September 1922, in Stratford, Hamilton, Iowa, United States, his father, Guy Sylvester Scott, was 25 and his mother, Helen Irene Hoffman, was 20. He lived in Webster Township, Polk, Iowa, United States for about 15 years. He registered for military service in 1942.
We do not have exact information on Sgt. Virgil W. Scott for February 14, 1944. February 17, 1944 was credited with the shootdown of an ME109. He was taken prisoner on February 24, 1944 following the shooting down of the aircraft in which he was flying (MACR 2634, A/C # 42-31671, February 24, 1944) and released at the end of the war.
He died on 21 April 2010, in Webster City, Hamilton, Iowa, United States, at the age of 87, and was buried at Calvary Cemetery in Webster City, Hamilton County, Iowa, USA.

- Pensavo che il S/Sgt. Scott potesse avere volato anche il 14 febbraio 1944 con il Lt. LaForge in quanto il 24 febbraio 1944 Scott vola sull’aereo pilotato sempre dal Lt. LaForge (MACR 2164). Il figlio del comandante LaForge (Gary LaForge) mi informa però (18/01/2023) che nel diario di Virgil Scott, in relazione alla missione del 24 febbraio 1944, egli indicava: “tutti i membri dell’equipaggio erano nuovi per me tranne il navigatore con cui avevo già volato“. Quindi il 14 febbraio il S/Sgt. Scott sembra non volò con l’equipaggio del comandante LaForge mia con un altro equipaggio non noto.
I thought S/Sgt. Scott could also have flown on 14 February 1944 with Lt. LaForge since on 24 February 1944 Scott flew on the plane also piloted by Lt. LaForge (MACR 2164). However, Commander LaForge’s son (Gary LaForge) informs me (01/18/2023) that in Virgil Scott’s diary, in relation to the mission of February 24, 1944, he indicated that: “all the crew members were new to me except the navigator with whom I had already flown.”
Then on February 14, S/Sgt. Scott did not fly with Commander LaForge’s crew. ↩︎
