301st BG, 32nd BS

Il 14 febbraio 1944 pilotava il B-17 A/C#42-31482 ed era il comandante (leader) del primo gruppo.

Nacque il 28 dicembre 1920 a New Orleans, Orleans Parish, Louisiana. Frequentò l’università statale (LSU) prima di arruolarsi nell’US Air Corps nel 1941 all’età di 21 anni. Fu inquadrato come secondo tenente nel 1942 e addestrato come pilota del B-17 Flying Fortress, bombardiere pesante quadrimotore. Il 28 gennaio 1944 assunse il comando del 32nd BS succedendo al capitano Collins.¹ Durante la Seconda guerra mondiale partecipò a 51 missioni in Nord Africa, Sicilia e Italia; ricevette la Distinguished Flying Cross per una missione il giorno di Natale del 1943, quando atterrò in sicurezza con il suo aereo dopo che due motori furono messi fuori uso durante una missione sul Brennero.
Nel 1947 sposò Mary Louise Moser e si stabilirono a Dallas in Texas dove allevarono sei figli. Concluse il suo servizio con il grado di Maggiore, ricevette la Air Medal e otto Oak Leaf Clusters e rimase nella US Air Corps Reserve fino al 1957. Morì il 3 gennaio 2011 a Dallas, Dallas County, Texas.²

He was born on December 28, 1920, in New Orleans, Orleans Parish, Louisiana. He attended state university (LSU) before joining the US Air Corps in 1941 at the age of 21. He was hired as 2nd Lieutenant in 1942 and trained as a pilot of the B-17 Flying Fortress, a four-engine heavy bomber; during the second world war he participated in 51 missions in North Africa, Sicily and Italy. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross for a mission on Christmas Day 1943, when he landed safely in his own plane after two engines were knocked out during a mission over the Brenner. In 1947 he married Mary Louise Moser, and they settled in Dallas Texas where they raised six children. He ended his service with the rank of Major, received the Air Medal and eight Oak Leaf Clusters, and remained in the US Air Corps Reserve until 1957. He died on January 3, 2011, in Dallas, Dallas County, Texas.
